Description
This is a Synthesis patcher, not a traditional ESP replacer. That means it reads your full load order and generates a patch on the fly — so it plays nicely with other mods that touch crafting recipes, as long as you run Synthesis after them.
If something looks wrong, check your load order first. It's always the load order.
Changes from the original.
Drastic Change:
This mod replaces vanilla smithing perk gates entirely — schematics are the only thing standing between you and a recipe. That means the smithing perk tree does nothing for crafting out of the box. If you want those perk points to actually matter, pair this with a smithing overhaul that redirects smithing perks into bonuses like faster tempering progression, better output quality, or reduced material costs. There are several good ones on Nexus.
Major change: My mod adjusts the number of "pages" needed for learning a recipe to a complexity (1-4) + material (1-7) system (so an iron dagger always takes less schematics to learn than a dwarven bow. Original was randomly generated at run.)
Minor change: Sale price for schematics is linked to number of pages needed.
New addition: My mod also gates tempering behind studying the item, after you know how to craft the item you can learn to temper it.(think Immersive spell learning -DEST but for gear.) Learning to temper also applies to artifacts. The temper "quest" needs to be started in the .esp.
**Disclaimer**
Might lead to bloated leveled lists in heavily modded games because all items that gain a schematic, get that schematic added along side them.
Installation instructions
1. Drop the `Data/Scripts/` folder from the download into your Skyrim `Data/` directory
2. Open Synthesis and import the included `.synth` file — it'll pull the patcher straight from GitHub
3. Run Synthesis as normal
That's it. No fussing around.
Main features
- Removes default crafting and tempering knowledge from all items
- Schematics for weapons, armor, and jewelry are found in loot or unlocked by breaking items down at a **smelter**
- Food recipes are unlocked by recreating the dish at a **cooking pot**
- Crafting knowledge must come first — you can't master tempering an item you don't know how to make
- Unique items and artifacts skip the crafting gate and unlock tempering through bench study alone
- Works across SkyrimLE, SkyrimSE, SkyrimVR, Enderal, and the GOG edition
The first time you stumble across a Dwarven Sword Schematic tucked in a chest you weren't even looking in — that's the moment. That's what this is for.
Hephaestus_Reimagined
You start with no knowledge of how to craft anything. Schematics are scattered through loot, merchants, and item breakdowns — study them to unlock recipes, visit workbenches to master tempering. Works universally across any load order.
