Long ago, when Sheogorath grew bored of his usual chaos, he wandered upon a giant camp and their herd of mammoths. Amused and impressed by the strength of the beasts, the Madgod struck a bargain with the giants: everlasting cheese in exchange for a single mammoth sacrifice.
The giants, unable to resist such an offer, agreed. One mammoth was slain in ritual sacrifice, and Sheogorath, in his madness, reshaped the creature—reborn as a mammoth of cheese, walking on mighty legs of dairy.
The cheese mammoth was no mere miracle—it was a species. They reproduced not through birth, but by splitting themselves, much like starfish, tearing off wedges of their body to grow into new lumbering cheese beasts. However, the exact method of reproduction involved a forgotten step—one that the giants, distracted by their endless bounty of cheese, failed to preserve.
Now, only a handful of cheese mammoths remain scattered across Nirn, lingering remnants of Sheogorath’s joke upon mortals. Their very existence is a reminder that in Tamriel, even the strongest creatures are not safe from the whims of the Madgod.
