Experimental Combat Overhaul (Directional PB & AI Changes)
Warning: Highly experimental and not fully tested. Must be used with Weapon Balance Overhaul. Requires launching the game with the -devmode argument.
Overview
This mod overhauls combat flow by forcing directional perfect blocks, making ripostes meaningful and emphasizing feints, charged attacks, and combos. Combat is faster-paced, less repetitive, and more tactical, but many changes are experimental and may behave unpredictably.
Key Changes
Perfect Block / Riposte
You must match attack directions to perfect block.
Blunt weapons and polearms use only 3 attack zones:
Left
Top/Bottom
Right
Thrust guard can block top attacks, top guard can block thrusts.
Left and right guards are stricter.
Makes 1vX encounters more dynamic: easier to kill quickly, but external attacks are harder to block.
AI Behavior
AI switches attack zones more frequently and uses feints more often.
Aggressive and unpredictable; may not always optimize defense efficiently.
Dodge
Dodge mechanics are realistic but weaker:
Dodge distance standardized (armor no longer affects distance).
No invulnerability frames (iframes) — weapon collisions during dodge will hit.
Side dodges still allow dodging under attacks if timed and positioned correctly.
Combat Implications
Feints, combos, and charged attacks are more valuable.
Directional awareness becomes crucial.
Battles are faster, more tactical, and less grindy.
Notes
Many parameter changes are experimental and may have unintended effects.
Best used alongside Weapon Balance Overhaul.
