Description:

NOPE was born out of my frustration (read: autism) with the current state of bug fix mods for this game. Yukichigai's Unofficial Patch is undeniably an incredible mod. Modding would NOT be where it is at today without YUP, and the fact that it is still maintained to this day (with versions for EVERY language and with non-DLC versions available) is incredible. However, it has some major drawbacks:

  1. YUP does not use NVSE or any other third-party utilities. This is to make it as plug-and-play as possible - a great idea in theory, but something I think greatly holds it back in terms of what it is able to do, what it has to do, and how it implements some of its fixes.
  2. YUP is not too far off from being 15 years old and has had probably hundreds of contributors at this point. While this is a testament to the passion of this community, it has led to many issues with subjective fixes, poorly implemented fixes, fixes for things that were eventually fixed in title updates, or non-fixes that stemmed from a lack of understanding of the inner-workings of the game.
  3. YUP, despite its advertisement of being a "pure" bug fix mod, has MANY balance changes that, in my opinion, do not belong in the go-to unofficial patch mod.

These issues, along with some other issues, such as the NPC Fixes file being in a separate ESP which causes any ESM mods (which should be ALL mods at this point) that edit NPCs to need a separate YUP patch rather than just being able to forward YUP's fixes and overwrite or the fact that the assets are not packed into a BSA which means that any mods that happen to edit the same files cannot be packed into a BSA themselves or else YUP will overwrite them, made me want to create this: A single, modern bug fix mod that has evolved and will continue to evolve around other changes in the modding community to make everything smoother for both mod users and mod authors.


 

Changes:

Due to the sheer amount of changes, I will break them down into categories:


 

New Fixes - Notable new fixes unique to this mod.


 

Remade Fixes - Notable fixes from YUP that have been remade from scratch.


 

Removed Balance Changes - Notable balance changes made by YUP that have been removed.


 

Removed Fixes - Notable fixes/changes that have been removed by YUP due to either being fixed at an engine level elsewhere or being "non-fixes."


 

Miscellaneous Changes:

  1. Merged NPC fixes .esp into the main file and generated facegen to avoid mods needing to be ESPs or have a separate YUP patch to solve conflicts with NPCs.
  2. Packed all assets into a decompressed BSA for improved performance and improved ability for other mods to overwrite.


 

Recommended/Required Mods:

NOPE assumes that you as a user have the "standard" base of essential mods. Please see the "Requirements" drop-down at the top of the page for details!


 

Load Order:

NOPE should be the FIRST non-DLC plugin in your entire load order. Unofficial Patch NVSE Plus should be loaded DIRECTLY after this mod.


 

A Note:

I'm not blind to the fact that creating a new bug fix mod this late into the game's lifespan is, well, pretty annoying. This community has been built around YUP for so long that it is pretty entwined in the infrastructure; and while I don't WANT to create a divide in the community, I don't want the past to hold back what is possible now and in the future.


 

FAQ:

Q: So do I need YUP or any add-on mods such as YUPDate?

A: No! This mod is a complete replacement for YUP/YUPDate.


 

Q: Can I use patches for YUP with this mod?

A: Likely not! Although this mod started as an edit of YUP, there are VERY few records that have not been modified, removed, or entirely redone in this mod (seriously, create a delta patch in FNVEdit between the two if you don't believe me). It is recommended to check for conflicts in FNVEdit and make patches from scratch.


 

Q: If a mod needed a YUP patch, will it need a NOPE patch?

A: Not necessarily. As mentioned before, this mod is so internally different than YUP that some patches may not be necessary and some extra patches may be needed. Again, FNVEdit is your friend.


 

Q: Will you include fixes from Unofficial Patch NVSE Plus ?

A: That is not planned.


 

Q: Is this compatible with TTW?

A: No! TTW uses its own custom version of YUP that already has some of these fixes, with the remaining applicable ones likely to be implemented in the future.

Instructions

Install as normal with mod manager. Mod should be first ESM in your load order beyond the official DLCs.
