Overview

This mod revolutionizes first-person weapon handling by adding realistic weight-based dynamics and inertia to your weapons. Your gun now responds naturally to movement — heavy weapons feel heavy, light weapons feel nimble, and everything lags behind your camera movement just like it would in real life.

The weapon dynamically adjusts its position based on where you're looking, gently lowering when you look down or up to improve visibility. Combined with the new inertia system, your weapons have real weight and momentum that adapts to their actual mass. No more floating, weightless guns that snap instantly to every micro-movement.

All calculations are handled via scripting with extensive configuration options available through the included INI file.

Adaptive Weapon Handling

Key Features

  1. Weight-Based Handling: Heavier weapons sway and lag more than lighter ones
  2. Weapon Inertia: Weapons lag behind camera movement for realistic momentum (requires Compatibility Skeleton)
  3. Dynamic Positioning: Weapon lowers based on pitch angle for improved visibility
  4. Combat Awareness: Can automatically disable effects during combat for better responsiveness
  5. Fully Configurable: Extensive INI settings to customize every aspect of the handling
  6. Smart Smoothing: Intelligent smoothing prevents snapping and jittering

Requirements

The usual suspects:

  1. JIP LN
  2. xNVSE
  3. JohnnyGuitar
  4. Compatibility Skeleton (optional, required for inertia features)
  5. No other dependencies outside the standard NVSE ecosystem

Installation

  1. Install as normal with your mod manager of choice
  2. Configure settings in BLOCK0 to your preference
  3. Safe to add or remove mid-playthrough
  4. No plugin or conflicts expected

Compatibility

  1. Works with all weapons using standard first-person models
  2. Fully compatible with animation packs (ISControl, kNVSE, B42, etc.)
  3. Complements B42 Inertia — they work on different aspects
  4. Should work with scripted weapon systems unless they overwrite camera handling or BLOCK1
  5. Doesn't interfere with aiming, reloading, or sighted behavior — this is idle/camera only

Configuration

The mod comes with a comprehensive INI file allowing you to tweak:

  1. Smoothing Intensity: Control how smooth weapon movements are (0.1 to 2.0)
  2. Weapon Lag: Adjust overall weapon weight feel (0.5 to 3.0)
  3. Weight Handling: Enable/disable and configure weight-based dynamics
  4. Inertia Settings: Fine-tune vertical and horizontal lag, centering speed, and maximum angles
  5. Combat Mode: Automatically disable effects during combat for better responsiveness

Default settings are optimized for ~60+ FPS gameplay with realistic but not overly heavy weapon feel. The script dynamically adjusts

fFirstPersonHandFollowMult

and

fFirstPersonHandChaseSeconds

using your look angle, weapon weight, and movement speed.

Inertia System (NEW)

With Compatibility Skeleton installed, the mod adds true weapon inertia:

  1. Weapons lag behind camera movement both vertically and horizontally
  2. Heavier weapons have more pronounced inertia
  3. Customizable intensity and return-to-center speed
  4. Maximum angle limits prevent excessive rotation
  5. Works seamlessly with the weight-based handling system

Limitations

  1. Only affects weapon positioning during normal view (not ironsights, holstering, or external cameras)
  2. Certain modded movement types (e.g., power armor, scripted stances) may temporarily override weapon pose
  3. Inertia features require Compatibility Skeleton
  4. Vanilla behavior resets BLOCK4 during animation state changes, though our smoothing minimizes this

Questions

Does this affect weapon sway or recoil?

No. It only affects how your weapon follows your look direction and movement during normal view.

Can I use this with B42 Inertia or kNVSE rigs?

Yes! They complement each other perfectly. This mod just ramps it up.

Can this be used with controllers?

Yes. All camera movement types and input methods are supported.

How do I disable inertia if I don't like it?

Simply set

bEnableInertia = 0

in the INI file. The weight-based handling and pitch-based positioning will still work.

My weapon feels too heavy/light!

Adjust

fWeaponLagMultiplier

in the INI. Lower values make weapons feel lighter and more responsive.
