Overview:
Benny Humbles You was a critical factor of TTW balance upon release to keep the player engaged with the Mojave's early game without being overpowered and blowing through it. This mod adds confiscation and later retrieval of the player's gear, as well as a great many additional options to tune the balance of the wasteland transition.
Two notes are added to provide lore justification, one given to you by your 'savior' when you wake up at Doc's, the other will be with your gear in the confiscation safe.
You will have to kill Benny one way or another to get the key.
Details:
The original Benny Humbles You's perk removal option has been removed, due to it causing substantial issues and being practically impossible to fix for smooth functioning in every situation.
The "humbling" that this mod performs only happens once, when starting in DC and going to NV for the first time, at which point you will be deposited in Goodsprings to start NV as normal, with the relevant operations performed per this mod's config settings.
This mod page's images has the location of the safe where your gear is sent to after it is stolen. The safe will always be locked by key and not lockpickable.
The starting gear provided by Doc Mitchell has been totally revamped to be relevant to your SPECIAL stats and tag skills. SPECIAL stats which reach high values will grant extra gear that relates to the usage of those stats.
Any method you choose to kill Benny, including crucifixion will provide you the key to the safe. If you crucify, kill him on the cross or simply activate him to get the key.
There is a function I added to quickly get to the train transition: put this command in the console to be teleported straight to the train switch and get a ticket for free:
Options:
The following is a copy of the default config ini:
[Main]
bQuickStart=1
;if set to 1, this will skip actually using the vigor tester, the psych eval, and the trait selection phases of Doc Mitchell's house
;you will still have to activate the vigor tester, but once you do he'll do a lap around the psych chair and go to the front door
bStolenGear=1
;1 means your gear will be removed and placed in a wall safe in the second room of the Tops Presidential Suite, in the second room of the cell.
;0 disables gear removal, restoring the TTW default of Doc Mitchell returning your gear.
bKeepHoldout=1
;If bStolenGear=1, set this to 1 to keep your holdout weapons.
;Set to 0 to have holdout weapons removed with the rest of your gear.
bLoseMapMarkers=0
;Set to 1 to have all map markers wiped off the map when you transition between wastelands.
bCapRemoval=1
;Set to 1 to have your caps removed completely and not returned.
;Set to 0 to have them in the safe with the rest of your gear.
bResetLevel=1
;If set to 1, this will reduce your level to 1 upon transition. It will also reset your XP progress toward your next level.
;This means that you will be able to get more perks in total than if this is set to 0.
;Set to 0 to disable level reset. You will stay at your pre transition level.
bResetSkills=1
;If set to 0, your skills will not be touched.
;If set to 1, all of your skills will be reset to their initial values. Skill book increases will be maintained.
;If set to 2, this will reduce all skills by the iFlatSkillReduction value below. Skill book increases will be maintained.
iFlatSkillReduction=0
;Requires bResetSkills=2 for this setting to do anything.
;If set to 0, this setting will, instead of completely resetting your skills, instead have each skill reduced by the level you're at when the humbling starts, set this to 0. For example, if you're level 21 when you flip the train switch, each skill will be reduced by 21.
;This can push your stats into the negatives.
;If set to a number ABOVE 0, your stats will all be reduced by the number you set. This can push your stats into the negatives.
bResetKarma=1
;If set to 1, your karma will be reset to 0.
;Players using S6S Perks with the Ideologue perk will NOT be killed by this karma change.
;This is the ONLY place where I will ever provide immunity to death by Ideologue karma change.
;If set to 0, your karma will not be touched.
bRemovePATraining=1
;If set to 1, this removes power armor training specifically. Important for balance.
;This is the only perk that will be removed by the system.
;If set to 0, the power armor training perk will not be removed.
iFireCompanions=1
;If set to 1, companions will be fired and and sent to their DC waiting locations.
;If set to 2, they will be fired and sent to their NV waiting locations instead.
;If set to 0, they will not be fired. Not recommended.
bPerkLR=0
;If set to 1, this will give you the relevant Lonesome Road karma perk based on your alignment.
;Neutral = Just Lucky I'm Alive
;Good or Very Good = Thought You Died
;Evil or Very Evil = Ain't Like That Now
;Set to 0 to disable giving the perk. Those perks are overpowered, and setting this to 1 is not recommended.
bLuckyRevolverStartingGear=1
;If set to 1, this will give you Lucky as part of your starting gear if you have a luck skill of 10+.
;Humbling Penalty Settings;
bPerkHumbleXP=1
;If set to 1, this will give you a perk that increases your rate of XP gain.
;It sets your pre-humbling level as the max XP bonus you receive from the XP perk.
;For example, if you were level 20 before the transition, the max XP bonus will be +20%.
;As your level gets nearer your pre-humbling level, you will gain a proportionally smaller XP bonus. For example, if you were level 20 before the transition, and you are at level 10 post transition, you will receive a +10% XP bonus.
;Once your current level reaches the pre-humbling level, you will no longer receive any XP bonus.
iPerkGainRateAfterHumbling=4
;This changes your perk gain rate to be 1 per this number after the transition until you reach the level you were at before the transition.
;The default is 4, meaning every 4 levels you get a perk.
;If you want to keep getting perks normally, set it to whatever it is in your build. If you get a perk every level normally, set it to 1, one every 2 levels set it to 2, etc.
;If you want to disable getting perks at all until you reach the level you were at before the transition, set this to something high like 99.
bPerkHumbleHeadTrauma=1
;If this is set to 1, your health recovery, weapon spread, attack, reload, run and equip speed, AP recovery speed, and aiming spread penalty will be penalized until you reach level 15. This penalty reduces at level 5 and 10, and goes away entirely once you reach level 15. It will still be visible in the pipboy, but not actually perform a penalty at that time.
;Your non-tag skills will also be penalized by a flat -5, on top of any bResetSkills/iFlatSkillReduction settings. This is a one-off penalty, and it will not reduce the maximum points you can allot to a skill to be below 100.
;Set to 0 to get none of the above penalties whatsoever.
;PERMANENT HEAD TRAUMA SETTINGS
;These only apply if bPerkHumbleHeadTrauma is 1
bHumblingPermanent=1
;If this is set to 1, your health recovery, weapon spread, attack, reload, run and equip speed, AP recovery speed, and aiming spread penalty will be penalized FOREVER.
;All but three SPECIAL stats of your choice will be reduced by 1 as well.
;If this is set to 0 and bPerkHumbleHeadTrauma=1, you will get the temporary version of the head trauma penalty.
;If bPerkHumbleHeadTrauma=0, you will receive no penalty of any kind.
bHumblingRestoreSPECIAL=1
;If bHumblingPermanent=1, this will restore the SPECIAL stats that were reduced to their original values after you receive the Brainless perk from Old World Blues for the first time. If you change to Big Brained, the restored stats will not be changed.
;If this is set to 0, the SPECIAL reductions will never be restored.
;There is no other way to cure this debuff than getting the Brainless perk whatsoever.
;Getting Brainless will not restore the penalized non-tag skills.
;NONE OF THE "Humbling Penalty Settings" ABOVE WILL CHANGE ANYTHING IF THE TRANSITION HAS ALREADY HAPPENED
;THESE MUST ALL BE SELECTED BEFORE THE TRANSITION
;Auto Loot Settings
bAutoLootStashTransfer=1
;If you have Loot Assist - Autoloot and Shared Crafting by PTWB, setting this to 1 will transfer all the contents of your shared crafting stash to the gear safe as well.
;This can be set separately from bStolenGear.
;Set to 0 to have the crafting stash left alone.
;Dynamic Level Stat Choice Settings
bDynamicLevelStatChoiceResetBoosts=1
;Dynamic Level Stat Choice provides you an option to pick between a health, AP, or carry weight bonus at each level.
;If you have Dynamic Level Stat Choice installed, set this to 1 to revert all of your chosen stat boosts.
;Set to 0 to have the stat boosts left alone.
bDynamicLevelStatChoiceResetLevelTracker=1
;If set to 1, this setting will revert the level tracker in DLSC to 1. This will result in you getting the choice at each level once again.
;If this is set to 0, you will need to to get all the way back up to the level you were before the transition to get choices again.
;This should be set to 1 if bDynamicLevelStatChoiceResetBoosts=1, or you will lose all the stat boosts you got as you leveled, AND get no new choices until you reach your pre transition level.
;If you want an extra relative debuff for your NV early levels, setting bDynamicLevelStatChoiceResetBoosts to 1 and this to 0 will result in not getting any early game stat choices.
;Vegas Elysium Settings
bGrowthSerum=1
;This reverts the Growth Serum trait's carry weight bonuses.
;Irrelevant if you do not use Vegas Elysium.
Requirements:
Requires JIP LN, Johnny Guitar, ShowOffNVSE and xNVSE.
The original Benny Humbles You is not required.
Warnings:
Almost Perfect is a horribly balanced, overpowered perk that breaks the character recreation sequence in Doc Mitchell's house entirely. I don't recommend it for balance, even without this mod. As such, a small file has been included to hide it and prevent it's selection. This does not fix the perk causing issues if you already have it.
How do I re-enable Almost Perfect?
Delete the following lines from BHYSYS\nvse\plugins\scripts\gr_BHYSYSFixes.txt
Any bug reports involving perk selection, SPECIAL allotment, and/or levelup issues will be ignored as this behavior is unsupported.
Installation:
Regular installation.
The mod must be installed from the start of a save for smooth behavior.
If you are installing the mod mid-save, it must be before the transition occurs for the first time, and you will have to enter the following console command and save before the transition:
A nail gun is provided in one or more of the starting gear groups provided by Doc Mitchell. As such, this is strongly recommended for use with Vanilla SWEEP or My Esp-Free Nail Gun Tweak or any other sane nail gun rebalance that makes it a tier 1 weapon.
Mid-save uninstallation is absolutely not supported.
Compatibility:
Incompatible with Practice Makes Perfect.
Bugs:
Please report bugs in the bugs tab, not the posts. I get a notification when bugs are reported, but I have too many mods to keep up on the posts on all of them routinely.
If the system still does not trigger in full, retrieve the contents of consoleout.txt from your base game folder (where the NV exe is) and paste it into a spoiler tag in the Bugs section of the mod page.
Questions:
There's a change in the changelog that I'm not seeing!
Check the version number vs the one that's currently available. Listing changes in the main descriptions and changelogs as they happen is the only way you're gonna get thorough info, I'll forget otherwise.
Why is Lucky in the starting gear list?
Lucky was placed here, because it's generally only really viable acquirable by the time you find a .44 and a decent supply of ammo for it, sort of making it unappealing, and because it doesn't really make any sense, build-wise, to max your luck in the character creation, since there's clothes and implants that can increase it. Lucky was provided for the theming, at a low condition, as a reward for players who do max their luck out right away.
Put the key somewhere to just find without talking to Benny?/Make the safe lockpickable?
No.
Pretty please, I really really want the perk reset setting?
If you add this line to your config ini, perk removal will occur on transition:
As the config value's name states, this setting is completely unsupported and all bug reports and posts about it will be deleted. There is a warning that occurs in game when the perks are removed as well. You've been warned.
