Adult Content Guidelines
Contents
Adult content on GGMods is classified and understood in the following ways:
Excessive Violence
Content that depicts or emphasizes extreme, graphic or gratuitous violence is permitted but must be clearly and accurately tagged to inform users before viewing or downloading. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Explicit and graphic gore, exposed organs, close up depictions of injury, bloodshed, bodily harm.
- Any kind of depicted violence towards animals, where graphically depicted and not a nonviolent game mechanic (example: turning animals into animal products in a farming simulator).
- Mods created primarily for shock value through brutality rather than gameplay or narrative purpose.
Reminder of things that aren’t permitted:
- Any kind of graphic depiction of torture, dismemberment or mutilation.
- Any kind of depicted violence towards children (or characters perceived as children as defined here, whether it is physical, verbal or sexual.
- Sexualized violence or assault of any kind.
For more information on what isn’t permitted on GGMods, please consult our Moderation Guidelines.
Swearing
Content that contains explicit strong language that a reasonable person would want tagged for the purpose of appropriate filtering. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Repeated or prominent use of profanity and explicit language in dialogue, text, audio or images.
- Sexual or crude slang.
- Use of slurs or other similar wording that may cause harm or offense to certain groups of people. Please note the use of these should be narrative, and not in a way that is intended to harm or demean groups.
Nudity
Nudity in this category refers exclusively to a partially or fully naked human body exposed in a way that is not meant to arouse the viewer. This might encompass, but is not limited to the following examples:
- Visible nudity without sexual activity or explicit focus, such as anatomical body models.
- Artistic nudity depictions of the nude form.
- Character models or textures that remove or reduce clothing without sexualized presentation, such as body mods.
- Gameplay, environmental mods that may incidentally feature nudity, such as bathing scenes, medical emergencies, etc.
- Nudity intended for educational purposes such as science or biology books.
Content tagged under this category must not be sexually explicit or pornographic. Creators are responsible for using their discernment to categorize appropriately.
Suggestive Themes
Content that includes suggestive or mature themes without explicit sexual material is permitted but must be clearly tagged. This includes:
- Flirtatious dialogue.
- Sexual innuendo.
- Double entendres.
- References to sexual topics.
- Fade-to-black romance scenes.
While presented in a non-graphic, comedic and non-explicit way. Anything that does not fall within the above examples or that crosses into graphic depictions should be appropriately tagged as sexual content (See Sexual Content section below). Please be very mindful when choosing to use this tag in place of sexual content.
Sexual Content
Content that depicts, describes or features prominent and explicit portrayal of sexual acts or bodies. This includes visual, written, audio or gameplay elements where sex or sexual gratification is in clear focus.
It is of utmost importance that the following be tagged under this tag:
- Depictions of consensual sexual acts such as intercourse, oral sex, manual stimulation, whether in a humanoid group, with a humanoid partner or on their own.
- Moaning or sexualized audio designed to emulate or imply sexual acts.
- Any kind of reference or depiction to fetish content, even while it might otherwise be perceived as innocuous or safe for work.
- Clothing designed solely to expose or highlight genitals as well as erogenous areas in a sexual manner with the intent of arousing.
- Visible nudity presented for sexual purposes, whether this be through suggestive posing or expressions.
- Explicit references to or discussions of sexual behavior that go beyond implication or innuendo.
- Use of strong language that is associated with sexual content, explicit terminology, or fetish-coded labels such as “MILF”, “BDSM”, etc.
- Depictions of items or imagery commonly associated with sexual activity, including sex toys, poles, etc.
Ask yourself:
- Is it graphic or meant to arouse? → Sexual Content
- Is it just unclothed but neutral? → Nudity
- Is it only jokes, flirting, or implication? → Suggestive Themes
Adult Themes
Content that includes material that may not be suitable for children. If your project includes the following, it should be tagged as such:
Substance Use
Content that glorifies the use of real-life harmful substances such as alcohol, drugs, tobacco, and so on through ingestion, injection or inhalation. Excessive consumption of the following substances may cause physical harm:
- Illicit drugs and psychoactive substances.
- Alcohol, vapes/e-cigarettes, and tobacco.
- Misused prescription medication.
- Items and substances not intended for human consumption.
This policy does not include fake or made-up video game drugs/alcoholic substances that give players boosts or effects in-game.
Mental Health, Suicide and Self-Harm
Content that explores depression, suicide, self-harm, mental illness, trauma or psychological suffering in detail in a way that aims to glorify, romanticize, or encourage these topics. For example:
- Content that glorifies or romanticizes depression, anxiety, and/or other mental illnesses.
- Content that glamorizes and encourages self-destructive behavior.
- Content that depicts suicide and/or self-harm accompanied with text, visual, and/or audio that encourages the act.
- Content that describes suicide and/or self-harm as a positive outcome or response.
- Content that describes suicide and/or self-harm as the only way to solve issues.
- Content that romanticizes self-harm and/or turns it into an “artistic” solution to problems.
The way this content is depicted in the mod will determine whether a mod should be tagged as an adult mod or not. For instance, if a mod contains a character dealing with a mental illness of sorts without glorifying or romanticizing it, it does not need to be tagged. If the mod doesn’t present suicide and/or self-harm as a solution, it also does not need to be tagged. However:
We strongly suggest adding content warnings clearly and visibly to your mod to caution users.
Body Image and Eating Disorders
Content that glorifies, romanticizes or normalizes eating disorders and/or body shaming. This includes:
- Content that glorifies, romanticizes or normalizes extreme thinness.
- Content that glorifies, romanticizes or encourages eating disorders such as starving, binge eating, bulimia, and so on.
- Content that promotes body shaming.
- Content that is made with the intent to shame, discriminate or demean body types and features.
